Fan Motor

How much current should the single fan motor be drawing? I'm constantly blowing relays and I'd like to rule out the motor. Also, the plug for the relay (on the harness side, not the relay itself) is scorched and slightly melted around the two sockets that carry the current for the motor itself. My dad says that this will cause the toasted connection to pull more current and heat up, frying the relay and melting the plastic. It still doesn't explain the original problem though.

I just tested the fan and it draws 24-26 amps as soon as the circuit is closed, and tapers off to 11 amps once the fan reaches full speed. Normal?

Every time I replace a relay this gets worse and worse. What could be causing it to heat up?

Anybody?

Fan draws 24-26 amps as soon as the circuit is closed, and tapers off to 11 amps once the fan reaches full speed. I'm about to just replace the fan motor with a new ACD unit, solder in a new connector, and start using a GM relay. If I still blow relays after that I'll be pretty upset.

24 - 26 inrush sounds like it might be a little high and 11 is hight also. Definately replace the connector and relay, before replacing the motor make sure the squirrel cage on the motor and the ductwork around it is clean. Critters have been known to try to find a good hiding place in and around warm engines when they are cold.
