help

I have a 89 RS with vats. I had to put a new steering column in it. I had a new key made and can not get the car to do a thing. I need help. I have tried all kinds of things.

You have to have a new key cut for the new ignition lock, but usuing the resistence of the old chip embedded in the old key. Carry the old key to ACE hardware, have them test the resistence, but have them make the new key to match the newer ignition lock. Ace charges $19.95 for this key.

we went to the chevy dealer and had key made and that did not work.
