Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
“If the battery is in the stock location, the stock hold-down mechanism is OK. But if the battery has been moved, it must be securely mounted to the frame or the frame structure with at least two 3/8-inch bolts and metal straps. J-bolts are not legal. The rules also require any trunk-mounted battery to have an external battery-cutoff switch and be vented outside the trunk. Also, if a trunk-mounted battery is not enclosed in a box, a firewall must be fashioned between the trunk and the driver using .024-inch steel or .032-inch aluminum plate.</SPAN>”

In addition to this, there are further requirements for the battery the faster you go.
I have added a tech article from HOT ROD.
Oh, I have a 92 GTA, and installed mine of the top of the bumper.

Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
Damn, so many rules, maybe I'll just put the damn battery back to its stock location!!!
If my batter is in the back, and I have like a plastic boat battery holder in which the battery is in, how do I vent this, when the top isnt air tight??
Where should the cuttoff switch be located??

Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
Here is a pick of my cut off switch, I used the summit racing sealed battery relocation kit and taylor cut off switch.
I will have to find the pics tonight and post them. I removed the license plate and cut the strip between the mounts and installed the switch there with the plate reinstalled you can't tell it is there. when i go to the track i remove the license plate.

thats awesome and definitly looks like the way too go, its too bad with these cars the battery box is too big to fit in the wheel well and you lose your whole trunk.

Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
i had a neighbor with a drag truck. he got a custom liscense plate that said "ON OFF" and drilled a hole in the center of it. mounted the switch there. i thought it was pretty sweet. dunno if it was legal though =)

Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
The number is tay-1033 on summitracing.com. The small gauge wire is for the alternator shut off it connects power to the red wire at the alternator. Just remember when you finish your install that you test to be sure that the engine shuts off when you turn the switch off. If it does not you will have to rewire it so it does.
At our local track there is a guy with a second gen that has the cut off switch in the middle of his license plate.

Hey never ever thought about the alternator, there must be a may I can disconnect the power source to the alt when I disconnect the battery without having to run another wire to alt.??
Also in your last pic it apperars that you have some type or foil tape or something wraped around the positve cable...can you tell what that stuff is adn why you have it.
Thanks
Brad

Re: lets see your remote disconnect switches
The foil is actually asbestos heat wrap, I did not want to have to worry about it getting hot and damaging the cable.
You have to run the second wire, because every thing after the dia connect switch will stay powered up if the switch is turned off because the alternator is still charging because the red wire is hooked up to a constant 12v sorce the main lead on the back.

Bringing this back from the dead.
Does anybody have any pictures with a Moroso switch mounted to the tail lights? I am in the process of wiring up my optima yellow top and I have a BMR weld in battery box inside the spare tire area. Would like to see how the switch is mounted to the rear light?
