Hideaway headlight has mind of its own.
The headlight on the drivers side comes up sometimes. Stays up sometimes. Goes up and down a few times..... Some times. Any tricks I can use to straighten out this agravating glitch?

First place to start is to repair the weak link in the system. The hard gel inserts inside the gear of the headlight motor will cause the symptoms you're describing. I make two kits to repair them. TDS 207280 ($6.25) includes the 3 Delrin bushings to repair one headlight and instructions. TDS 209280 ($20) includes 6 Delrin bushings (enough to repair LH & RH headlight motors), a motor gasket and side cover gasket for the LH motor another side cover gasket for the RH motor two longer screws and nuts (in case you snap off any) a packet of synthetic grease and instructions. The module can cause your symptoms too, but until you've repaired the headlight motors it is difficult to diagnose a bad module. Once you've repaired the headlight motors you'll be able to diagnose if you also have a problem with the headlight control module. The module is supposed to turn of the motor when it senses the spike in current from the motor hitting the physical stop. If your gear is somewhat free-wheeling due to bad bushings your module won't be able to sense a spike in current. There is a secondary timed circuit in the module to turn off the headlight motors in case the module doesn't sense the current spike. Download the instructions for the 209280 Deluxe headlight repair kit (link attached) and you'll understand how to repair them.
