Lights and connection HELP!!!
Hi everyone I'm Shawn. Here's the situation... I got a knight rider scanner light and it comes with a control box and wires and the scanner and wires that are to be connected I can do that part but it say's in the instruction that i need to connect the red wire from the box to the battery but that wire is way too short to reach the battery. so I was wondering if there was a source in the car I could plug it in to? Also my next question is what is that little box under the dash to the right of the steering wheel it looks like you can plug something into there. I don't know.
By the way the car I have is a 1989 Pontiac Firebird 2.8 litre
Please help!!!!

Splice the red wire, and/ or hook it up to the cig. lighter wire or something in the dash that has constant power. Use a test light if in doubt. I guess the connector under the steering wheel could be the diagnostic plug. You can use it to extract fault codes, and even read out engine sensor values.

Well put Shawn, just send me a PayPal bill and I'll take great care not to give any advice next time around! ;-)
I am actually surprised that not more cars catch fire than does, having seen the amount of hack jobs and dangerous workmanship people are capable of..
But I rest easy, trusting that you have prepared for the task by practicing with connectors and some scrap wire.. ;-)
Glad if I can be of any help. Be patient, these things take time to get the hang of and do properly, and there is often more than one solution possible.
