Re: Computer between standard trans and an auto trans
i have never compared a standard bin to an auto bin.
but there are a few differences between an auto & standard trans.
the 2 i can thing of right now are. 1, you won't have a shift light, which is not really a problem.
and 2, the biggest difference is the timing map in the chip. i forget which way it goes, but i think with an auto the timing comes in faster, which running an auto chip with a standard trans will probably cause a bad pinging problem. if the standard chip brings timing in faster, the car will run sluggish. either way you need the right chip or to start burning your own.
there may also be changes in the fueling map too.

Re: Computer between standard trans and an auto trans
ok here is the problem its an Iroc and i thought Irocs did not come with standards so what would i get the chip from just a Z28 with a 5 speed?
also what about a VSS for the computer that will probably be a problem huh?
and how would i tap into the computers VSS?

The '86 Camaro should have a VSS on the back of the speedo head.
DENN is right on. Without reprogramming, the ECM will be expecting a PARK/NEUTRAL signal from the auto trans, a top gear switch input, a TCC load, the DFCO map will be different, IAC operation for stall saver will be different, target idle RPM will be different since the ECM will not differentiate between PARK/NEUTRAL and "normal" and add steps. I'm sure there are other differences, but I'd have to study it a bit more to find them all.
