tach & oil press gage not working
tach & oil press gage not working
I have aqcuired 3 different instrument clusters for my 82 camaro and the tach and oil pressure gauges don't work for any of them. The other gauges work but sometimes must be pressed on. I've hooked up an aftermarket hydraulic oil pressure gauge & it works fine. I've replaced original oil sensor unit w/ new sensor to no avail. The circuit board for the cluster & tach/oil press looks fine on all 3 clusters. Wires appear to all be in place. I thought I ought to post thread before I tear into the harness. Thanks!

Any luck? I also have a 82 with the culster that has lights and was wanting to upgrade to guages. Does anyone know what years of clusters will work in the 82 model.
Re: tach & oil press gage not working
I actually have an 88 camaro and was using an '82 instrument cluster and got confused however it's my understanding that all '82-'92 clusters will interchange. I have been told since I posted that thread that since I have changed to a regular carborated engine, not fuel injected or computorized, and changed the electric fuel pump I've lost the circuit that operates both my tach and oil pressure somehow. I've still got to find someone smart enough to tell me how to wire it with the regular gas engine. You'll find instrument clusters for your '82 all over ebay anywhere from $25-$150 depending on the condition of course but the 145 mph ones sell for closer to $150. I feel like I got a good deal at $135. Good luck!

Re: tach & oil press gage not working
I found a 145 for $35.00 at the local Junk yard. it is out of a 87 irock. It is pretty much a complete car. looks like an wire fire under the hood(battery cable and starter harness). the car is red on red. Interior looks good if anyone is interested or other parts. pass fender is burnt but all the rest of the car is great.. 64000 miles.
Also I did figure out the wiring last night. all I have to do is pick up the sensors today. Three wires is all I have to hook up for every thing to work. All three wires are on the driver side of the car coming out of the main harness. White, Green, and Tan wires. White will hook up to the coil unless you have an ign box, green to the temp sensor and the tan to the oil sensor. I think this will work and I will let you know. It might be a while before I can test the tach because of doing upgrades.
