Rear hatch release

Anybody know how to bypass the e-brake lockout? Like, make the rear hatch pop button tink the e-brake is on?

I'm in zero danger of reaching up to the dash to pus the button, so no danger of it happening while driving. It's annoying to get out, realize I forgot the pop the hatch, and hafta get in, pull the e-brake, just to pop the hatch. I'm already moving the button, so I can pop the hatch, without having to get in, and reach half way across the dash. That was a stupid place for GM to put it anyways!

Any ideas?

I'VE HATCHED AN IDEA

If you want to retain the hatch lockout VIA tranny
you can move the ground seeking side of the hatch release
switch to the neutral/park switch.
If you want to bypass the parking brake
and the tranny move the ground seeking side of the
hatch release to ground.

Re: Rear hatch release

I assume then there is a wire on the switch itself to move, to accomplish this? I haven't looked, but it appears that the bottom half of the dash has to be removed, to access the switch, huh?

Thanks.

Re: Rear hatch release

If you are ok with bypassing all safety elements in that circuit, you can find the hatch release relay (on Camaro models, it's in the center console, right underneath the switch but I have no idea where it would be located on a GTA) and move the yellow wire to ground.

The relay should have three wires: yellow (safety ground), brown (from a switch) and black (to the hatch release). Pull enough yellow wire out of the harness and cut it. Then ground it on a bracket somewhere so that the relay is always connected to ground (with the yellow wire).

Hope this helps.

Re: Rear hatch release

Cool. Sounds like I need to pull the bottom of my dash, find the relay (I'm betting it is behind the nearby), and find a ground for the yellow wire, semi-preferably on the tranny park switch.

Thanks for the clear description Lou!
