HELP!, car DOA, weird ignition problems...

After running errands all day just fine I got home, shut it off, and took groceries out of the trunk. Well I got the groceries put up and got back in the car to go somewhere else but when I turned on the ignition nothing is working....

There is still power somewhere because my dash guages kinda spaz a little bit, and my radar detector (which is directly wired into an open ign power source in my fuse box) is coming on but instead of going through its normal startup blips and beeps it just has all the lights illuminated like it is frozen.

Needless to say it's not turning over, and need to get it fixed today to get to work tomorrow. I'm thinkin it might be some kind of short somewhere? I did kinda hear a small thud from the starter area when I turned the key the first time.

Any ideas?

How is you battery, check voltage with volt meter. Or just jump and see if it starts, if it does check altenator and check to see if battery went to sh$t.

Good Battery should read 12.6 so i'm going to go out on a limb and say take the battery in and have it tested along with your alt. But with the light acting the way you said it sounds like a dead battery.

Now it's reading 12.35v. Wouldn't that be enough to properly power up a radar detector?

Well it was the battery. I took it out and took it to the local auto store to let them test it. It didn't even have enough charge to test it. (about 38 CCA out of 700) The machine charged it and tested it and it was bad. Got a new one in and it fired right up.

Good Deal, Now I would take and have my alternator checked just to be sure it is up to par. I'm glad it was your battery. Peace
