Berlinetta Pod push button switches fix
The push button switches on my '84 Berlinetta drove me crazy because they only worked intermittently, particularly the windshield wiper off button: I could get the wipers to start, but had to stop the car, turn off the ignition and wait a few minutes so that the wipers would automatically turn themselves off when I turned on the ignition again. It was a real pain. I replaced the right pod several times, but all of the pods I bought seemed to have the same type of intermittent problem with one or more of the push buttons.
After spending a lot of money on pods, I finally figured out the cause of this problem and the fix: dirt or deteriorated pieces of foam inside of the pod gets in the little switches and keeps them from making contact. All you need to do is remove the pod, take off the outer cover, and squirt tuner cleaner in the little switches to clean them out. You don't need to remove the front part of the pod to do this. In fact, don't remove the front at all because it can be a lot of trouble to get back on. You can see the little switches fron the sides of the pod.
Tuner cleaner is available at any electronics parts store. It has some type of lubricant in it, is under high pressure to wash out the crap in the switch, and doesn't leave any residue. I would strongly suggest that you only use tuner cleaner and not some other type of solvent spray. It might dissolve the plastic parts.
If you can't find the little switches (they're about a quarter inch square and made of white plastic) send me an email and I will send you back a photo of one of them so you will know where to squirt the tuner cleaner.
If anyone needs the right pod, I've got one that has been squirted out and works great.
