Turn signal light/wiring problem.

Hi, I just bought a 88 GTA and had to repair the headlight motors. After doing this and replacing the passenger headlamp everything worked fine for a couple of times driving then the right turn signal indicator started coming on when I would turn the headlights on. I searched on here and found some info that led me to think it might be the ground for the headlight, which was questionable so I fixed that (& checked it back to ground on the battery) but the problem remains. The side marker/turn signal on this side is not working. I swapped the bulb and it still doesn't work. I got out my DMM and checked and in this socket I am getting ~10V on one side and ~11 volts on the other, so ~1V differential, which tells me there's a problem but I'm stuck here as I am about helpless when it comes to electrical issues. Any suggestions on what to do or check next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Shawn,
You still have a ground problem. I have had the ground wire fail inside the light socket - they are so cheaply made. Get the problem to happen and use a temporary ground wire to ground the signal light & side marker - you will find your problem this way!

When you say ground it with a temporary wire, do you mean a wire from the ring terminals of the ground wires to the battery terminal rather than trying to ground it through the chassis?

The cleanest way to run a ground wire is from the neg battery cable, but a good chassis ground will work just as well.

Re: Turn signal light/wiring problem.

Figured it out, bad socket or wires just out of it. I can probe it and move the socket around and it will short across the leads. I picked one up today and will have it in tomorrow if I can scrounge up a soldering iron & some shrink wrap. Thanks!
