wiper/radio issue; intermittently working
wiper/radio issue; intermittently working
Well this has been an intermittent issue since I have gotten the car. The radio will shut off (as in all power to it is cut). When the radio goes out, the wipers don't work (obviously both are on the same circuit).
I know that this is not a fuse issue because the wipers and the radio works most of the time. It also seems that when the key is turned on in accessory the radio will always work fine, as will the wipers. I noticed that when the radio/wipers are not working my voltage will increase by 3 or so volts... I'm assuimg this is just because less power is being used...
Thanks in advance

Re: wiper/radio issue; intermittently working
Both the fuse for the radio and the fuse for the wipers get their power from the same switch stage of the ignition switch. In my 82 service manual the ignition must be in the run position for these two fuses to get power.
Since your problem is interment, either your ingition switch is going bar or you have a loose wire connection at the ignition switch or the fuse block for this circuit.
Take a look at the first sticky at the top of this board, and visit the noted link to get a wiring diagram for your model year. Look in both body wiring diagrams and verify how these two fuses get their power. Then verify the wiring, and replace the ignation switch if necessary.

Re: wiper/radio issue; intermittently working
issue resolved!
--what happened was the PO did not do a great job wiring the radio in, the hot shorted out, and blew out the fuse (a fuse that I did a good job overlooking
). Replaced the fuse, fixed the wire, and the issue is resolved!
Thanks for your input crossfire, if I still didn't fix it, that is the kind of answer I would be looking for!
