Tach with MSD
This is for my 85 pontiac trans AM i just finished my motor swap and what not and I have a Digital 6 MSD ignition and a msd distributor anyways my question is I had 3 diffrent sets of plugs that went to the distributor and everything ive read said its the white wire but I cant find a white wire anywhere Ive seen a yellow wire and Im not sure if thats the one or not but I could use some help. The orignal engine was the 305 carbed. Its really frustrating me messing with this and Im not sure if I needed an adapter or not for it, but I searched and cant find anything.

Re: Tach with MSD
I don't quite understand your question about your distributor.
There is one plug that goes from the base of the distributor to the first socket close to the cap. Then there are two individual wires that have individual plugs that only go on one way. I believe they're labeled W and B (I can't remember, but I remember a W and B when I switched to HEI). I'd assume then W is your white and B is your brown.
You should really only have two plugs that go from your harness to your distributor cap. The third should be from the base of the distributor to the cap.

Re: Tach with MSD
Thats correct I switched to a stand alone MSD system (distributor coil and box) I just want to know what wire controls my Tach so I can conect it to the sender on my MSD box (Its the digital 6 CD box) Because at the moment I have no speedo (probably the sender havnt looked into it yet cruise control needs to come out so I dont know where to start with that one but thats not the point) and I have no Tach and I need to get them both up and running again so I can get the car smoged.
Re: Tach with MSD
You mean your speedometer isn't mechanical? When did they swap it out for digital? I've owned up to an 87 and they've all used mechanical speedo cables for the cluster.
As for the wires that control your tach, I have no effing clue. Try find a wire diagram for an 85. That's pretty much all I can suggest.

Re: Tach with MSD
I have an 88 and my tach wire was a white wire burried in the main wiring harness coming from the drivers side of the firewall. Hope this helps.
