a/c compressor clutch resistance test
ok i need someone who knows a/c compressors to tell me what i should see on a digital ohmmeter when i put the tester leads on the spades of a mid 90's GM a/c compressor clutch
should i see high resistance or low resistance if it is good ?
i have to go to a yard in the morning and buy one for the '98 3.1L achieva/grand am and i dont know where else to ask right now
this thread shows 4.5 and 4.8 on an old GM jaguar clutch coil

Re: a/c compressor clutch resistance test
Low resistance, usually. In the range of, I'd say, 3-6 ohms. Bigger compressors would have smaller resistance.
If you have a small motorcycle/alarm 12V battery, you could always bring it with you and put 12V on the compressor clutch to see if it works.
Hope this helps a bit.

Re: a/c compressor clutch resistance test
awesome thanks it did
the original coil had 2 ohms
GM dealer said compresosr was bad
so we got a known good replacement from another car and it is 4.5
it is the small style delphi compressor, the later style that doesnt kick in and out by physical movement(late 90's serpentine)
but this other one for some reason the pulley is rubbing on the clutch somehow and making metal shavings and in which are sticking to the clutch hub!
it makes metal noise louder and quieter back and forth while running
but is alot quieter when the clutch is engaged though
what is wrong ?
its a known good take off
and its doing this for no reason
thanks!
