I am about to put in a 350TPI out of an 88 GTA into my 85 IROC, the 350 is going to replace the 305... do these have the same wiring harness and different computer? From what I understand I can use the SAME harness I just have to use a different computer (ECM). Any help from anyone would be greatly appriciated! THANKS! Im not positive about the harness, but you will have to change to a computer with ID# 1227165. There is an article that relates to a computer swap like yours on here.

The 85 harness will be incompatible with the 88 computer. The 85 computer is a one off one that uses the old 160 baud communications.

Im not sure, but a Vette might have the memcal you are looking for to use the 85 computer with the 350.

 

Uh,,,, guys,, if he`s going from a tpi 305 to a 350 tpi,, it`s a direct bolt in swap!!!! just get a custom chip!!! just use the short block of the 350 and use all the tpi off the 85 on the 88 motor, there direct swap! if I `m not mistaking, even the tpi plugs are the same untill 89` so it may be even easyer than what I said to do! how do I now? iv`e done this swap on 2 f-bodys and had nothing but small discrepancies.

 

I agree with hattmuber. If you're going from 305tpi to 350tpi just use all the 85 tpi stuff on the 88 engine. Then go to www.fastchip.com and order an '85 computer chip for a 350 TPI engine. It's listed on their site as a 350 tpi Vette chip because the firebirds/camaros didn't come with a 350 engine until '87 but it works the same. I did the same thing when I went to a 350 tpi on my '86. I just ordered the 350 tpi Vette chip and specified that I wanted the VATS disabled (since the '86 thirdgens didn't have VATS but the vettes did).

They have stage 1 and stage 2 chips so if you're keeping the 350 stock then you can just get the stage 1 and it will work perfectly fine with the stock engine.

 

Thats what I was talking about. Get a Vette chip (memcal) and you'll be all set.

 

ok you guys seem to know what you are talking about. i have a question about a 89 305 tpi swapping to an 88 350 tpi block with all internals. now i will be switching everything over to the 350 as far as heads and the TPI system. now i have read multiple posts and gotten a cluster of information that seems to make my head hurt. wht will i need to do this? i know that in one post it said i would need 350 injectors, 350 knock sensor and an esc module from a 350. will i even need this stuff. i ask this because ive been told on this forum that because i am sticking with the 305 chip and computer for a little untill i can get a 350 chip that everything should run. is this true. im trying to get everything that i need so i can knock this out in a weekend.
