distributor wiring/ECM
puttin in a 350 with a non cc carb and wondering what I need to wire for my new dist. will the old wires work (i need 12v power) or does the ecm play with the timing depending on what it is reading? because I want to disconnect the Ecm all together. are there any other issues I will have with disconnecting the ecm? thanks

Re: distributor wiring/ECM
You just need the power wire to the coil for a non-cc dist.
Aside from a wiring mess to remove, the ECM does nothing but control engine/emission functions

Yes, what originally powered the (assumption) divorced (seperate) coil (since you didn't specify the year) will power the coil. Will be the same if you had the 85-older single (coil-in-cap) HEI as well.

Re: distributor wiring/ECM
Your coil wire (primary, switched +12v from ignition switch) is a 14ga pink wire.
Since you have an 82, there should be that wire (pink) with a plug on it along with a white (tach lead, seperate from the pink) that goes to the dist. These should plug right back into your non-CC dist.
Anything black is 99% of the time a ground. Green, could be a couple of things. One, temp sender to gauge wire or, A/C clutch. Something else I'm forggeting may be in there as well. Those are two that come to mind offhand though.
A.C should be on a 2 plug harness though. Gauge is one wire.

great, thanks for the details, after you said ac clutch, now I remember that's what that plug went to. one more question, my ECM do I just disconncet the wire harness from it or take the fuse out in the fuse panel? thanks again

Re: distributor wiring/ECM
It won't make any difference weather you remove power from it or not. If you really want it disconnected, pul the ECM down from the pass side dash, unplug it and s--tcan it
.
Or, just pulling the fuse will work, too.
