Gauge lights working intermittently

Car: '85 Firebird, '74 Nova
Engine: 2.8, 5.7
Transmission: T5, TH350
Axle/Gears: 3.42 open, 3.08 open
Gauge lights working intermittently
Some of the gauge lights in the '85 don't seem to want to work properly. Sometimes, the tach light wont come on, and the other gauges only have 1 of the 2 lights working (so it's dim and hard to see some of the readings). But sometimes, I'll turn the lights on and the tach light works, along with some of the other lights. I tried changing the fuse (it's a 5 amp right?) but to no avail. What could be the problem?

Well if they work at least some of the time its not going to be a fuse. Its more likely that you either have a fault switch, or a wire that is rubbing against the chassis somewhere.
You'll have to take it out of the dash and check all the wires.
You need to find some wiring diagrams. The local library may have a set of diagrams.
