what does this mean, fan relay

I grounded the green and white wire for the fan relay and the fans came on. Does this mean the relay is good or bad? I bought a new one just in case.
Also, what is the relay next to the fender, on the firewall? That relay also has two green/white wires and I tried grounding them and nothing happened. Thank goodness because that was the wrong relay.

Other relay is for the fuel pump.

If fans won't come on without grounding that wire you grounded, and STILL don't work with new relay, then you may have a bad fan switch. It's in the head, pass side (on a V8 anyways).

I found the correct relay and grounded the correct wire and then fans came on. I didn't put in the new relay. I've drove it for to days and the fans came on one time when the temp was over 220. I wired a switch so I can turn them on or just leave them on.

If the fans came on with the green/white relay wire grounded, the relay is definitely good.

If the fans came on above 220F, that's also good. That's how the computer is programmed.

I don't see a problem.

How far does the temp have to go above 220 before it comes on? This was before, I've also noticed that the only time I could get it to come on was when it reached temp, shut the car off and then turn it back on.

I am not sure about the temp, it's somewhere close to 230. For the exact answer, I'd do a search.
