Major Wiring Issues>>>

Ok I would search but I have no idea what Im even looking for...

Symptoms:
- Headlights and Driving lights flicker/dim all the time while driving
- Interior lights also flicker/dim (seems more so at higher speeds?)
- Lights/interior dims dramaticaly only sometimes when brakes are pressed,
sometimes radio will even cut out for a second
- If I turn on my rear defrost Volt gauge drops to 9, car barely runs till i click
it off.

Now, im no good with wiring, I have no idea if these problems are linked or not. But the diming/flickering headlights seems to have gotten more frequent, and the rest of the symptoms are about a month old at the oldest. Car is an 1987 GTA, never had any issues with it, has a new alt just put it (July), battery is only a couple of years old, and car sits at over 13 volts, but the guage does move down 1 or 2 volts with issues.

Im assuming a bad/worn ground might be the issue? But I have no Idea even where to start looking, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and I have no wiring diagrams at my disposal as of right now.

Thanks in advance
Chelsea

Re: Major Wiring Issues>>>

First check the battery connections. Then have your battery and alternator checked. Check the connections at the starter as well. There are grounds on the firewall, back of the heads, radiator support and front of the block going to the battery.

I'll double check battery connections, but the connections at alt and starter should still be good (starter replaced June, Alt replaced July by me) but ill double check to be sure.

Re: Major Wiring Issues>>>

The power to all accessories in the car including ignition comes off the starter, through a fusible link, and then through the "C100" multiconnector in the firewall. I suspect that wire or connector is the cause of your problems. Try to google for trans am wiring diagram. I found a bunch of pics for the 84 model wiring somewhere not long ago.
