How to get to the VATS!!!!!!

Mother mary of GOD!!!! 4 days wasted trying to get this no stop code 46 problem solved, and everytime I think I have found the vats to test it, turns out to be something else. Do I need to take the whole dash out to find this thing.... Also I have spent countless ours searching this forum for solutions, Has anyone really had any luck with the resistor thing ? I bought a bundle of different ones from radio shack and none of them were labled, I was thinking of trying the resistor thing before I go a different route. Also thinking of trying the bypass module as well.

ok so the vats box is a gray looking box. the only way to put a resistor in is to test the chip on the key. thats the only way that you will be able to start the car unless you get a new wireing harness and computer but that is way to expencive.
