Bare Body 92' Z needs a harness!!!
I have a 92' Z28 in mint condition that I have labeled my "project" car. It used to be a TPI but now I want to go old school and mae it a carb. Right now the car is completely stripped...COMPLETELY!!! There literally isn't a single wire in the car and right now is on jack stands with no drivetrain installed either. I guess what I'm asking is after I get the body painted, it will be time to wire the car (chassis and engine). Does anybody know where I can get a chassis harness and what type of harness will I need to wire the engine up since it won't be an EFI setup? I want to install a trunk mounted harness and the bigger companies can't help. This is going to be an extensive and lengthy "project" but I want to do it right. I figured since the car is stripped I might as well take the extra time to make sure everything works properly. I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Look for am harness from an early Camaro or Firebird with a Carb to make life simple for you. 82-86 would be ideal. If you mix/match harnesses from year to year you will run into compatability issues - so try to use as much wiring from the donor car as possible. By using a older engine harness you will need to add at least one wire for the electric Speedo sensor. There may be others as well - but that's all I can remember right now !
Do you have ANY of the original harnesse ?? Your best option is to re-use ALL the interior / body harnesses and only swap the engine harness, When your ready to buy a harness or harnesses let me know. I have a bunch of them and might be of some help. ( I DON't have any 90-92 harness right now ! )
If you plan to continue using the Air bag system than you will need to retain your original Headlight harness. This harness also has the wiper motor wiring, fog light, and horn wires in it. See the attached pics fior a view of the 91 drivers side bulkhead connection. These 91 Camaro diagrams will help no matter what engine harness you decide to use !

Re: Bare Body 92' Z needs a harness!!!
I do have all of the harnesses for the car (original TPI harness (uncut) and chassis harness) but they're all stuffed in a box. When I picked up this car I kept finding more and more terrribly rigged "quick fixes" through out the electrical harnesses. I actually found a piece of speaker wire grounding the entire A/C system. Everything in the car worked intermittently (ie. windows, trunk release, etc. I dont think the computer works either, but it does have a hypertech chip installed.
I have no intentions of re-using the airbag or VATS systems (had nothing but problems with VATS). How hard will it be to try and reuse the the old interior harness since I don't want to use the VATS or airbag systems?? All I need in the interior is PW/PL/AC/Hatch Release/Mirrors/Cig. Ligh./Dome & console lights/Stereo, etc. I don't need to reuse the power seat either since I will be installing a racing style seat. I feel like I bit off more than I could chew with this project. Wiring is probably my weakest skill.
I have a thousand questions, but won't bore anyone with them now. I just need a starting point. Will a new aftermarket harness be best?? They're not very expensive but I'm concerned with how to afix all the connectors with the harness (tail lights, PW/Pl, etc.) Thanks for the help and tips. i really appreciate it.
