Restoring, should I replace all wiring?

Hey guys, my car is all apart, currently working on the body. I'm going to be replacing the wiring for the speakers as I'm planning on installing some badass system I have.

I know hardly anything (other than stereo equipment) about wires and powering the car. I was wondering since I have all the wires in front of me and bare, whether I should replace ALL the wiring or not. Obviously a tedious but not an expensive job.

Is this recommended? I'm not sure if replacing old wiring is a good idea or if i'm just wasting my time, money and risking a screw up. I know how to connect wires to wherever they have to go, but I know nothing about different types/gauges of wires.

It'd certainly be easier since everything is already apart. Is the original wiring hacked up, burned, etc?

It would be easier at this point, but if there is nothing wrong with your wiring, leave it be. Good wiring may be more expensive than you think. If you do have problems, go to www.wiringproducts.com for supplies. Go to www.madelectrical.com in the tech section to learn some basics of electricity. They also sell a pamplet called ELECTRICAL WIRING "tech is made simple" (part # TB-1). It’s a great guide for learning how to do wiring. Additionally, they sell some electrical upgrades (and tools) that any reasonably intelligent person can do and they are well worth the money you pay. One upgrade they don’t sell and that I think is worth the money (at least for me) to do is to make new battery cables for your car. The stock cables are made of aluminum (yes, aluminum) and do not conduct electricity as well as copper. I suspect that GM did this to save money as copper is expensive. Don’t get me wrong, the stock cables are adaequate. I’m talking about an upgrade only, so if you have other things you need to spend money on, do those first. Lastly, when replacing wiring go with the same guage or larger, but keep in mind that larger wires add weight to your car. Hope that helps.
