89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
ok i've made acouple post before about this issue but now i finally have an idea of what im up against..
im trying to swap an 86TPI Engine into an 89TPI car
the issue im having is that my 89 car has no engine wiring harness so im forced to use my 86's full engine harness..
but when i went to hook it up to the main C207 connector thats under the passenger side dash i noticed that there is a connector(C221) on the 86 side of the harness that doesnt have a connector to plug into on the 89(under dash) side and this C221 i believe powers the INJECTORS and FUEL PUMP
from what i have read.. the C221 connector was removed in 89 and i believe the connections where added to the C207 connector somehow...
the other wires on the C207 all match up except for the VATS with my 86 harness does not have and VSS wire which the 89 harness does not have
my question is how can i splice the wires to make the C221 connector work? or how do i go about providing power to this main connections for the inj. and pump.
also i have an 86 2.8 FI car that i was orginally going to swap my 86TPI into but i wrecked it and thats why i bought the 89 roller..
i dont know hardly anyting about wiring but one other thing which may sound stupid was would i be able to trace the C221 connector to the fuse box and see where it connects and reconnect it to my 89s fuse box?
any info is greatly appeciated... if anyone needs pictures of these connectors to better understand what exaclty im taking about please reply with any info you may need to help me solve my problem
thanks,
adam

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
sounds like amajor headache that I have already lived.I swapped my 89 to the 90-92 speed density tpi,and the interior harness was a TOTAL pain.My car was originally a digital dash car,and the engine harness came from a 5-speed car.(my car an auto.)After several weeks of solder heat shrink and numerous re-pinning methods,I had the car running just fine, but I was pretty uneasy about all the work I did.I was just plain scared of my car shorting out somewhere and going down in flames. So if possible, use the interior harness from the donor car and save yourself the headache of swapping this here & that there.

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
well i wish i could just swap over my 86 V6 harness because im almost sure it will work since all the connections under the dash are almost(if not exactly) the same...
but my 89 car has power windows, mirrors, locks, defroster, and remote hatch relase
the 86 has no power options what so ever.
i was worried if i replace my 89 dash harness with my 86 harness with no power options wouldnt i lose all my power options that are nessisary to drive the car comfortably?

That's No Problem,...... All those options are all independant of the main dash harness. The Windows, locks, Mirrors are on the same harness and can remain in the car when the 89 Dash is pulled out. The rear defroster and hatch release are easy to ID and can be plugged into the 86 FuseBox. ( You will need to pull the circuit breakers from the 89 fuse box and install them into the 86 fusebox too. )
If you plan to swap the 86 dash wiring into the 89 than you need to worry about the tail light harness. In the 86 the dash harness plugs into a "body harness" and then into the tail light harness. The 89 dash harness eliminates this "body harness" and plugs directly into the tail light harness. If you swap the 86 dash in,...... install an 86 body and tail light harness so your not stuck Splicing at the back end !

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
thanks for the info john.... im just going to completely changed over all my wiring from the 86 to the 89 since my 89 doesnt even have a headlight wiring harness either...
and where do the remote hatch release and defrost hook into the back of the fuse box at?
oh yeah... and will my 86 2.8FI wiring be compatible with the 86 5.0TPI?
sorry about all the questions but my buddies that have the shop im working in are all into 60-70s carb cars and dont know much about F.I.

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
ok i removed both dashes today... what a pain..
there was about 30 connectors and countless bolts...
my question is where do the power options connect to on the 86 harness?... and on the 86 there was this small black box(not the fuse box) that looked somewhat like the fuse box but it had 2 connectors pluged in both with orange wires. it is mounted on the driver side kick panel.
what is this box?

This box in the fuse-box-to-power option Junction box. One of the power feeds from the fuse box is always HOT for options like the door locks, hatch light and so on. The other power wire from the fuse box is "switched" power to feed options like P windows and so on. One wire feeds the left "column" on the Junction box and one wire feeds the right column.

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
today i got the body /tail light harness off the 86 and into the 89... man i had no idea what i was getting myself into wtih all these wires and removing several pastic interior pieces. i've never tryed something this big before.
it sucks because my firebird tail light harness didnt have the right bulb connectors to use my trans am lights so i had to go with my old firebird lights and ditch the TA ones for now.
hopefully everything works out after the get the engine in completely.. thanks for the info again jonh.. and one more question
since the power options junction box has power as you said... do i hook up my power options to this? and how would i go about that?'
tomorrow my mission is to get the 86 dash into the 89 and hopefully get my power options hooked up and and i will be a happy man

Re: 89 car with 86 engine harness !please help!
is it possible to just ditch the junction box? i see that the power options on the 89 dash to window harness have just 1 plug that connects to the fuse box..
can i just remove this connection and plug it into the back off my 86 fuse box? and do away with the junction box since it really only has a connection to my hatch motor that doesnt work? or does it serve some other purpose?
