disabling tail and brake lights possible?

is there a way to hook up a toggle switch to my rear tail lights and brake lights?

like if it was dark and I wanted to still have all power and front head lights but NO rear lights and NO brake lights when the pedal is pressed??

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

Running from the cops are we :-p, just playing, newayz the brake switch underneath has 2 wires and when you depress the brake pedal it makes contact internally, on one wire or the other you can cut it and lead it to a switch and then on the other side connect it to the other cut part of the wire, that would cure your brake lights, and as far as your parking lights in the back, figure out which wire that is and do the same, you should be able to get access to those wires underneath the driverside kick panel. Other than that, a one switch set-up, i don't know of, but don't get caught with it, i'm sure it's illegal some how.

In the tech articles there is the wiring diagrams for the '86, check those out maybe you can figure something else out!

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

yeah I kinda figured it would be splicing in between the wires that lead to the lights somehow. I read on some site how to do it but I forgot where I saw it and I think it was hooked to one switch.

As far is illegal? Im sure it would be if they knew what the switch was for but they would never know unless I told them or was caught using it but then again I dont see that happening. they would probably have to make up some kinda charge for that...

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

Turn your lights off with the normal switch, and you can disconnect the brake switch on the pedal to turn off your brake lights.

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

yeah I can do that...but I also want to have head lights. Using the normal switch will also turn the headlights off too.
I want to be able to just cut the rear lights

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

Maybe someone else can explain this...do all the tail lights share a common ground??? Could you create a toggle switch to kill the ground??? I would assume that could kill the brake lights along with the parking lights. Just a thought.

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

If you simply cut the ground he would never have taillights, he wants to be able to control the rear taillights for stealthyness i'm assuming while keeping his headlights to see where he's going.

rig up a relay to cut the ground when a switch is flipped.

Yeah I know I was just talking in terms of cutting for the relay/switch. I would use a relay.

Re: disabling tail and brake lights possible?

I personally don't know how to do it but a friend of mine (Xophertony) does. He has a functioning switch on his GTA so maybe you could shoot him a PM.
