Error Code 33 and 36

Hello my name is Rikard, And i Live in Norway, so pardon my english!

My Service engine soon light suddenly started to illuminate after i tried to read my engine indentification number.. ;P
When reading error codes i got 33 and 36, (with 12 before and after)
So i was wondering if there is some connectors or something in that area that i could have accidentaly disconnected or something...

the car is a 86 Camaro z28 TPI!

codes read "33 High Voltage (low vacuum) at mass air flow sensor, (or MAP sensor" and "36 Burn off at mass air flow sensor OR Problem in transmission shift OR Fault in direct ignition system OR Missing pulses in electronic spark timing signal"

So if any of you have any input on what to check first i would be most thankful!

thanks... Rikard

Re: Error Code 33 and 36

First:

Disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes than reconnect it and start the car. See if the C/E light comes on again and then diagnose the codes that appear.

Don't try replacing any parts until you at least try to re-set the ECM first !

Re: Error Code 33 and 36

I have already tried that twice... Engine stall att idle and after a few secs the SES light illuminates..
But as described above.. this problem started when i yanked a bit on the wires behind the drivers side head... so i was thinking bad connector/connection somewhere ?

Enigine has always sounded like i have some vacuum trouble that i have not found yet.. but never the SES ligth before now ;P

If you were pulling on the harness behind the drivers side head to view the engine casting numbers than it's possible you came into contact with the EST system. If I remember right the EST system is mounted on the firewall right in that area. try checking that to see if the plug was distrurbed in some way.

Unplug and plug in the EST and the MAF and BARO connectors. Then unplug the ECM - wiat - then plug it back in and check for codes. If your lucky it will simply be a bad connection. If your not lucky than only testing the system as described in the 86 Shop manual will determine the exact root cause of your issue.

P.S. You may have a ground wire at the back of the drivers side head - check to see if there is a ground wire there and if so be sure it's got a good conection !
