Need help tracking a short...

Hey guys,
I have a short somewhere on the same fuse as my stereo, interior lights, power trunk, and power locks. I took out my stereo and check all the wiring and it seemed ok. Is there anything else on this fuse I should look at specifically? Where are common points where these systems have problems? This is on my '86 Firebird.
Thanks, -Jack

You can also check out the cigarette lighter and the underhood light, they are on the same circuit. Your horn should also be on that circuit...

Re: Need help tracking a short...

were you doing anything, using the cigg lighter (often a dime will get jammed in there and short things out, or foil wrapper from gum), putting in a new radio, changing any interior/exterior light bulbs, ANYTHING that you touched that has anything electrical going to that possibly could have started this?

I'll check the cigg lighter, didn't think of that, would be funny if that was the case. I've been having problems with the top rear brake light (the up high one in the glass) but I figured that was on a different fuse. The issue with the brake light has been ongoing for some time, and I doubt it is related. Besides that there were no prior issues. The stereo is the same one that was in the car when I got it that I rewired about this time last year due to the horrible job done by the previous installer.

Will keep everyone posted.

Re: Need help tracking a short...

the underhood was an option, and if your car has it it would be on the same fuse. As far as i know the brake light IS a different fuse, and shouldn't have to do with this. Check the cigg lighter and check all the wiring to your radio, make sure it's covered, and if your not worried about wasting tape, cover all connections again with another layer of tape, can't hurt. Let us know how that goes.
