Sequential Tail Lights for my '90
Hi all,
I know that this topic has been posted many a time, but i wanted to know exactly what i can do with my firebird. I want to get the sequential tail lights to my car, but don't know if they will work or not. I have the OEM lights on the car, but the amber light for my turn signal is inside along with the other brake/tail lights. Can i switch the bulb out, or possibly change it to a brake/tail light? I would love to know because i am extremely interested in the seq. tail lights, and would love to purchase them. Are their kits i can get? I'm sry if i am reposting anything, i am sort of a noob to the forum and haven't posted much. I did
and found some info, but its not exactly clear to me. Plus the other posts have diff years. Please help as i would be greatly appreciative of your input.
Thanks

Re: Sequential Tail Lights for my '90
I'm taking requests for another batch of kits to be built... TGO thread And post #1, there is a link to the original thread I started, when I built the first batch.
You can do the amber-to-red conversion, like the Camaro guys would hafta do.
As far as the bulbs, it would be no different than the earlier 'birds, like I had to do. The outer bulb was a simple tail light, single-filament, but I got a dual filament socket from Pep Boys (Autozone, O'Riellys, etc.) should have them to.
Or just switch to the earlier lights, where all 3 are red, like mine in my avatar.
1 more, and I'll start taking $, then building them. Ya wanna be the one that gets the ball rolling?

Well, you made the 10 mark for building. I'd say go ahead & send your payment, but I'm waiting to hear from the other people.

Thfirewithin, the same question that you posted is already in the STS thread. I answered it there. It's not too much work to do what you need to do.

Lou-- I think he's got the same base bird lights that I have, not the T/A /GTA lights like Stephen.
Thfirewithin---You can modify your lights to work with the STS, but you wont be using the amber turn signal anymore. You also need to change around, rewire, and modify the sockets on the back of your lights in the red part if you want to make them look like Stephen's. Since you have 4 bulbs on each side of the car in the red part you have to decide which 3 bulbs you want to blink. The STS only works with 3 bulbs per side (Lou or Stephen correct me if I'm wrong), so you'd have to wire it up where either the two inner bulbs on each side blink at the same time, or the two outer bulbs. It can be done though. I've been wanting to do it for a while myself, but I haven't decided if I want to modify my stock lights or just get a set of 85-90 T/A tail lights like Stephen's which only have 3 bulbs per side. If I modify my stock lights I'll probably end up blacking out the amber section like in the pic.

Re: Sequential Tail Lights for my '90
On the GTAs, the 2 outer bulbs are only single filament bulbs, requiring buying 2 dual filament bulb sockets, like the inner 4, to do the full conversion. I had to.
I bought a full tail harness, to hack off the 2 sockets needed, and THEN I found the needed sockets brand new at auto parts stores!
And yes, to do the conversion you'd hafta wire them as 1&2, then 3, then 4. Or 1, then 2, then 3 & 4. Or just leave 1 or 4 as a non-STS. but I don't like that option.
