Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

OK....Due to PMs, and thread interest, we'll see about making another batch of 20 units.

TGO thread

Provided we get 10 pre-paid orders, we'll build a batch of 20 units. So the question is, who is interested in being in the first 10?

After we get 10 to sign up, then I'll ask for the money. NO MONEY until 10 people minumum sign up. Then maybe, 2-3 weeks to order the parts, build, then they'll be ready to ship.

Who's interested?

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

What do you need to do to switch from the regular to the sequential after it is purchased? Is it a simple install or complicated?

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

Simple install. No switch mod needed. It just takes the single stock signal, and turns into 3 sequential signals.

How much are they? Do you have instructions available so I could read to see what needs to be done for the switch?

$50 shipped. As for the switch, there are ZERO mods needed. All you hafta do it pull the tail lights, do the wire cutting & rerouting, and put the lights back on,. And your done.

The instructions are in a Microsoft Word format. A little too post to just post, as there are 3 different install instructions, depending on your application.

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

1 unit controls left & right. As for Camaro wiring, I'm not familiar with the Camaro, with regards to wire colors etc. I know the Firebirds had some different tail lights through the years, so there are some changes just in them.

Well actually dont put me down as of yet, Ill have the money Saturday though...to send your way.

As for the Camaro wiring, I am sure they all hook up the same way just different color wires and patterns.

So send (when I pay) the TA instructions to me and I am sure I can figure it out, as its only a cut and connect install.

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

Will you be able to tell me what each wire is too instead of just what color they are, as this will help in getting them to work on my camaro.

Just let me know what each wire is and Ill just flop that over to the Haynes Manual and check it out for the camaro.

I mean after all, there is only 2 wires per socket so it cant be that hard.

I've never done anything with wiring except ripping and cutting it from my AC and heater controls so.....

Ill wait for someone else to buy one for their camaro.

Until then Ill stay subscribed to this thread and hope in the not so distant future someone will get these setup and with video and hope these arent the last run.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work on a Camaro but, I don't think it would look as cool as it does on a Firebird. I say that because the Camaro has the amber t/s light and the backup lights on either side of the brake and tail segment.

Or has someone come up with an idea to customize that?

I have a group buy for custom tail lights going on.

Look in the group purchase section under Camaro. They can also be made for the TA if 20 poeple are had.

But anyway my tails will be All DARK smoked close to black. So the tails will match and wont look weird.

Well maybe Ill be one of the l8er 20 needed.

On your picture it shows three red lights. On the taillights it is two red and one yellow for stock. What is required to change the yellow colored one to red?

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

Im not sure whats needed to change but Im trying to get NEW lenses, in which I have a GB going for them.

We can get All red, all clear, all smoked, all DARK smoked

Any combo and KLEARZ can make it. If I wanted 1 grid red another clear and the last black I can get it done, just need 20 people willing to go in on the GB.

There are several successful triple-red Camaro light conversions here on TGO, using translucent red paint on their amber sections. You'd be the first Camaro with STS. Every one I've sold so far, has gone to a Firebird.

Stephen,

On your picture your taillights have three red lights, but on my taillights there are two red and one yellow. Is there a modification that I need to do to turn the third light red for these turn signals?

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

Tampa Hurricane, you have the new 90+ Trans Am with redesigned tail lights. You have separate amber turn signals from red brake lights. You would have to modify your turn signals the same way all Camaro folks would: by turning the amber lense into a red lense (paint - been done - do a search) and also by rewiring the taillights and replacing the multifunction switch on the steering column.

So if I buy this I need to rewire the tails AND a switch on the column?

If you can could you tell me what exactly would need to be rewired and replaced and why? Thanks a bunch as I really want to get this for my camaro.

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

I haven't looked into that in detail much because I am not planning on converting my car to a integrated brake/turn light system. But it should be as easy as replacing (not rewiring) the multifunction switch in the steering column with a GTA switch which would turn your amber turn signals into brake/turn combined lights.
Then you would need to modify your lenses because, of course, your amber turn signals cannot be used for brake lights!
And once you're in the middle of rewiring the taillights, installing an STS unit would be as easy as hooking up each STS half to the two turn signal wires.

Of course, if you don't feel like messing with the taillight harness, ask a buddy electrician to help you out.

The STS unit can be installed and wired up in 10 minutes if you don't care how well it's done. But if you take your time and do it right, it can take up to an hour.

I was thinking of switching my 90+ taillight out with a set of pre-90 taillights from a TA. Would I need to rewire my taillights to be able to do this? After switching to a pre-90 set, I was then going to add the STS to them.

90+ Firebirds are wired the same way as Camaros. See my post above on how to modify that.

On the 89 & earlier, they are already all red, no amber. All the bulbs are clear, with red lenses. For 91 & later, you hafta do the amber to red conversion, like the Camaro guys, with translucent red paint.

Gotcha down! 2 more to go! It's a pretty popular mod with the Caprice & Impala SS guys.

No legal reason you can't have them. I haven't been questioned, not even after being pulled over for other reasons. So I KNOW the cop saw them, when I hit my turn signal to pull over. Besides, the late 60s Thunderbirds came STOCK with sequential turn signals. If you had ALTERNATING lights...left, right, left, right, etc., that's a different story. On the rear you should be OK, but on the front is a NO-NO.

I've got you down.

I can take Paypal or M.O., either way. No personal checks.

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

Are there any legal issues with blacked-out lights in general?

That depends on if they are TOO dark...NOTICEABLY dark.

GTAs have a blacked out grid patter stock. Looking at them, you'd think they are VHT coated, but they aren't.

Those GTS covers ARE ILLEGAL, NO IFS, ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT. A light VHT Nightshade coat can get away with it, depending on how dark you go. Not like I did on my old Tahoe. I made it 4 days before getting pulled over.......

I'd consult your state laws though.

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

1 Camaro, I THINK. Not tracking that.

As for the darker Firebird lights, ANY GTA has them, most 89 & earlier.

Here is a daytime short video of my car with the Hazards on...

Re: Sequential Turn Signals...round 2

They'll fit ANY car, not model specific at all. As for fitting YOUR car, it all depends on your tail lights. 2 or 3 bulbs per side? Like my car, I had to change the outer most socket from a single filament to a double filament bulb.

If you ARE wanting one, your #10. 10 was the "magic number" to start the ball rolling!

$50 per STS, shipped in the 48. I can do Paypal... SteveCranford@Austin.rr.com
PM for the address, if anybody wants to do M.O.
