Just "died" while driving it....help...

OK, so we JUST put a brand new professional rebuilt tranny in the girl (by an awesome transmission guy who does all our work and local racers work), my son had been without the car for 6 weeks. My husband and son put the transmission back in the car. That night, my son drove it around and no problems. The next day, he drove it about 20 miles and it was fine- then out of no where it just completely died while he was doing around 55 (at least that what he tells me....).

He said there were no noises, jerks, or anything out of the normal....it just went completely dead. He coasted it off to the side. For awhile he could turn the key and it would try to turn over- finally he must have drained the battery dead because now she's flat lined. Dad pulled him home.

Sooooooo, he's a heartbroke 16 year old who's back under the hood today with his dad. The car NEVER did this since before-(we've had it about 5 months). Any thoughts on some little thing we may need to look at that could have been jossled around with the boys putting the tranny back in?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

This is unrelated to the tranny, but you might want to check the timing chain. This happened to my buddy's old volvo wagon on the freeway. A busted timing chain won't smoke or make a sound (at least it didn't then)--the car just shuts off.

First thing to check - check for any pinched wires or loose wires back by the distributor. Since the tranny was just put in, there is always the possibility of knocking a wire loose or pinching between bellhousing and engine.
After that, check for spark, check for fuel pressure & we'll go from there. We need a little info on the car - year, engine etc...
My guess would be a bad ignition module or failed pickup coil in the distributor. Check for the vitals first and we'll help from there - spark & fuel pressure (listen for fuel pump running when you first turn the key on).

I'm also 16 I went fast right after I got use to driving my 1986 Trans am. The only thing I can think of is the {speedlimiter} cutting off the engine or slowing the fuel input to the engine. It usually does it from 110-125 or so. When the speedlimiter cut off the engine it could have messed something up in the computer. I'm pretty sure the speedlimiter cuts off the engine or slows the fuel input to the engine.
What car is it with what engine
