Replaced Door - Now Power Locks & Windows Don't Work!
I spent today replacing the passenger side door on my 84 Trans Am. The new door already had power windows in it and I swapped over my power locks. I tested the power window in the new door before the swap and it worked perfectly.
I installed the new door and plugged everything back in - the connector to the window motor and door lock motor. I pressed the door unlock button on the passenger side door and only the driver's door unlocked. I tried to put the passenger side window up but it wouldn't go up - but the driver's side does.
SO, I pulled the passenger side door lock actuator out and plugged it in on the driver's side, just to make sure it wasn't the motor - still didn't work, but then when I went to plug the driver's side actuator back in, it wouldn't work either! I could only hear the click of the relay when I pressed the lock/unlock button. I checked the two 35A fuses and they are both good. So, as it stands now:
-I press the Door lock button, I only hear the click of the relay.
-Driver's window works
-Passenger window doesn't work
I hot wired the passenger window so I could put it up, and that worked.
Does anyone have ANY clue what I did to cause this? Everything worked fine before the swap and I didn't "tug" on the passenger wiring harness that much during the swap.
Thanks,
Joe

sounds like a ground prob to me. I would use a test light and check your wires at the pw motor and at the pl motor. use a ground on the door to check it.

I replaced my driver door and my power locks didnt work, i looked behind the driver side kickpanel and realized i forgot to screw in the relay box(the mount screw for the box grounds the whole power lock relay. Just an idea...

Re: Replaced Door - Now Power Locks & Windows Don't Work!
I just checked the voltage....
I get a reading of slightly over 12 volts at the power door lock actuators on the Gray wire when I press the Lock/Unlock buttons (actually, I only get a reading when I press one of the buttons on each door - not sure if it was lock or unlock).
So, the problem must be a faulty relay or two faulty actuators. The tan wire on both motors runs back into the relay so I suppose that could be the problem. I guess I'll start with replacing the relay as it's cheaper than replacing two door lock actuators.

both wires have power. one for unlock and the other for lock. it gets grounded through the door. if you are getting 12 volts on one wire that is telling me that your relay is working. make sure that the door has gotten a good ground. try putting a wire on the body of the door lock mechanism and then trying the lock unlock.

I removed the door actuator, scuffed the mounting plate a bit, then reinstalled and the passenger door lock now works! I will do the same with the driver's side and hopefully that will fix that too. Thanks to everyone for their help.
