Question about ignition wires
After I put headers on my IROC, I found that I was burning my ignition wires pretty badly, and I ended up replacing them a few times (they had lifetime warranty, so this wasn't such a bad circumstance) after they became destroyed. I got to thinking that I needed to upgrade from 7 mil wires to 8 mil wires, and furthermore, I needed all 8 wires to be elbow shaped as opposed to the two or three that were straight. (The straight ones arent suitable for headers at all)
The auto stores around me don't carry such things, and the only place that had anything close to what I needed wanted 70 bucks for "super stock" wires, and it was ridiculous. I thought up what I thought was an intelligent solution by purchasing truck wires for the same year; 1989 Silverado truck wires, which happen to be 8 milimeters and are all elbow shaped. I put them on the car and it runs, and so far I can tell no difference. The question is, did I make the right move? I spent only 32 bucks on the wires, and it seemed like a good choice, but I'm not entirely sure that the ignition system is the same. From as far as I can tell, both the IROC-Z and the Silverado of these years had the same engine, and practically the same distributor. I'm not sure about the spark plug gapping, and I'm not sure how the spark coil differ between the two cars, so would anyone care to enlighten me? I only recently made this purchase, so I could easily take them back to the auto store if I need to.
If the case is that I'm an imbecile, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Re: Question about ignition wires
I never burnt mine. But I bough these armor sleeves that sit over that part of the plug and wire so that the header doesnt effect them.

Re: Question about ignition wires
But the question still stands: will using truck wires work with my Iroc-z ignition system?
