Starting issue, now this...

Ok, I havent driven my Camaro(305 TBI) Since last Sunday and we have had cold temps all week, like single digits. Anyway I go out to start it last night and get it into a heated garage so I can change the oil and I tried starting it repeatedly but it wouldnt do it. At first it would keep turning over then try to start, run rough for a few seconds and die again. After trying this for about 20min. I gave up for awhile. I came back out and now the car wont even try to turn over. All the lights and everything work, and I know the battery is still good because when I was trying to start it, I could tell when the battery was getting weak so I hooked my charger up to it and set the charger onto (50amp/start). Could my VATS be messed up now. Would the VATS kick in after many attempts to start the vehicle?

Re: Starting issue, now this...

Ok, now Im starting to think its a starter issue. I just bought a BRAND NEW battery, threw it in and still nothing. When I watch the battery gauge it does show that I am drawing current when I turn the key, but I get nothing. The only think I hear is a faint buzzing in the dash. Could I have fried my starter when I was cranking on it trying to get it started for like 20min?

First you need to check if the solenoid wiring is ok . Then , if there's no problem , you should bring your starter to your local autoparts or mechanic to have it tested. There is sure a starter problem if the solenoid doesnt click ...

The only other thing I was going to ask. Is it normal when you first turn the key on for the security light to come on for a second and then shut back off?

Yes , we call it a ''bulb test'' . It is made to show the driver that all the lights in the cluster are functionnal . When you first cycle the key to the on position every bulb in the cluster should light up , then , after 5 seconds or so , shutting up .

Re: Starting issue, now this...

Good news, turns out that when I was trying to get it started for 20 plus minutes, I fried my starter. Put the new one in and I am now back in business! Thanks for the help buddy!
