This has been on since I have had the car and dont know what it is so can anyone take a guess for me

maybe it operates the ejection seat?
lol seriously tho trace the wires, I bet they just run to ground and a accessory power somewhere under the dash, if anywhere. Maybe its some sort of garage door opener from sometime in the sordid past?

Hey if it for an ejection seat all i need is a t-top motor to lift the glass...

Maybe it is for a security system but only 1 problem there are no remotes or fancy wires going everywhere.

What is normally in that spot? A hatch release button? (not sure, don't know Firebirds that well) Maybe it broke and was replaced with this one?
As suggested above, you should trace the black and red wires and see where they go. That's the only way to find out what it's connected to and what it might do!
And yes, it is a garage door opener button. Had one just like that in my previous house.

Its not a button at all. I push it and it doesnt go any where or light up. I will check the wires when I take the dash out to fix the air system
