Need help on fuel sending unit

I recently put a carbed 454 in my 90 camaro i am useing a mechanical pump on the block. I started cutting wires under the hood and have them all in a loom tied up and looking nice i turn my key on and i have a full tank of gas when the tank is 1/4 full i was wondering if i could run i wire from the fuel sending unit in the tank to under the dash and make that work i am useing after market gauges that i ran all my own wires for them i heard there is something to do with the oil presure sending unit on the wireing harness but im not useing any of those wires any help would be great

Re: Need help on fuel sending unit

are you sure that the fuel gauge that you are running is the same ohm range as the sending unit in your car? if the gauge always reads full it could be an open in the line. you will want to make sure that the sender only has one wire for the resistor and uses a common ground if that is the case then just running a wire to the gauge should do the trick.
