automatic transmission shifter electronic question
ok i noticed there is an electronic box on the side of my automatic shifter.
I want to do a bunch of fabrication and have light indicators telling me what gear i'm in. no reason but just to do something custom
my question is:
does that electronic box with all teh wires coming out tell the ecm what gear the car is in?
and if so do you think i can have indicator led's or bulbs coming off each wire to light up indiviudally when i shift? and if so will it screw up the signal going to the ecm?

Re: automatic transmission shifter electronic question
I don't think there are wires (probably not contacts either) for all gears. That module is a switch which allows the car to start in park or neutral, as well as turns the reverse lights on.

oh ok good call. damn i wish gm went the extra step, would of been a great spot to add on some gauges.
kinda like some lower model cars and trucks these days that already have the wiring behind a delete plate for like a clock or super duper radio. and all you gotta do is take it from the higher end model version and plug it in.
o well thanks for the input
