Assistance with a fuel pump issue please.

Allo everyone.I have a 90 Camaro which has an issue with the fuel pump not wanting to kick in.
A run down of what have done..replaced relay. Replaced oil sending unit.(on the side of where the filter resides) Tested the ECM unit.(had a bro with same make yr model swap out with me.His ran fine with my module mine still wouldn't fire up.) Retested the vats bypass I installed.(with the resistor block pulled no turning over nothing.Block installed turns over tries to fire up fine.)Removed and benchtested the pump itself'(used spare tubes to a presure tester) pump runs fine and builds up good press then turns off as should when pressure is achieved.
So I've eliminated the relay-ECM-pump,&vats system as problems.
I'm begining to think theres a break in the harness somewhere.
Tryied the tests with jumpers under the hood as described in this forum.....No pump action.
However when I tapped into the harness inside the car and applied voltage to the grey wire that runs to the pump it kicked in and after achieveing the desired back pressure it cut out. Then I started the car.Ran fine. However the jumper I used to try this burnt up.(amps in too small a wire)
Therefore what I plan to try is to trip the relay from inside the car with a switch.Let the relay handel the load for the current to run the pump.Like I do for the radiator fan.
Or cut the wire to the pump and splice in a relay to handel the load. This way not allowing any current to flow back thru the harness to any potential problem areas.
Does anyone know inparticuliar what point trips the relay under the hood?As I would rather trip that to make the pump run than install another relay.

Ok update on issue.I tried to run power to the grey wire running to the pump and it does kick in however it stays on it does not kick off like it did the last time.Musta lost contact last time my bad.
The car stays running while power is aplied but turns off when power is removed.Wonder what kinda damage this will do if i run it like this till I can fix the original issue.?.Anyone have any ideas??
