anti-theft system on 92 rs....oh no!

anti-theft system on 92 rs....oh no!
i was trying to disconnect the negaive battery terminal so i could install a new stereo, and the BAM, the anti-theft alarm went off, but then stopped after i took the terminal out of the battery. But would start again after i put it back in, and wont stop, so i disconnected the horn, and now theres this flashing light in my car on the left side of the driver dash.
how od i turn the anti-theft system off?????

Most factory alarms will respond to either:
Putting the door key in the drivers door, and turning it (try both ways)
Putting the ignition key in the ignition and turning it.
I didn't know these cars even came with alarms, VATS yes, but not alarms.
You may have an aftermarket alarm, if thats the case, if the above doesn't work, look under the driver side dash, for a small push button. Turn your ignition to the "on" position, then press and hold that button until you hear one chirp/honk. That puts the alarm in valet mode. Which is pretty much just keyless entry, if it was hooked up. The security light may stay lit while in valet mode. Repeat the process to exit valet mode.

while the batter was disconnected, i turned the ignition to on and then reconnected the battery and everything was fine, its back to the way it was normally.

Mine has the Goodwrench alarm from the dealer. Under my dash on the drivers side there is a toggle switch to switch between normal mode and valet mode (disarmed). I just leave mine in valet mode.
