ok new question with tbi to tpi swap

Sorry for all the questions, these are the last ones on this topic, I promis!

I've done alot of searching haven't come across this yet. Im looking at the pinouts for the 8746 and 165 ecm; im swapping the 91 TBI in my camaro to a 89 TPI. the 91 TBI ecm has an input for the 4 gear signal and the 89 TPI ecm does not. Is this a requered feature? why doesnt the 165 ecm need to know the trans is in od/4th like the 8746?

The 91 TBI has a crank signal input to the ecm, is this usable on the 89? I didn't see anything on the pinout for 165 ecm, does it not require a crank signal?

Do you guys know what year and cars I would find a vss converter box? It turns out that the 91 TBI setup is a 4000ppm signal and the 89 earlier setup is 2000ppm

and one last question, I read that the 89 prom has the esc spark control integrated. Is there any truth to that? the pinout on the ecm shows an external controller.

I have been reading so much great information on here, I was going to originally swap the whole wiring harness but it now looks easier to just repin and add a few wires. It turns out theres alot more to this swap than I originally thought but as Im learning its not so bad.

thanks again

Here is a link for the converter box from the ebay store I bought mine from.

I was thinking last night after I posted on your other thread about this swap that if you set your tpi up for speed density you could avoid this converter box and make the swap somewhat easier. idk what all is involved to do that but there is a tech article about doing it.

Re: ok new question with tbi to tpi swap

Yea I was thinking about going to SD and its an easy pin change on the tbi harness I have in the car, the MAF setup has a closer pinout almost identical to the TBI I would have to add like 3 wires and change the position of one. I have everything for the MAF setup bought it all years ago and never used it.

So really its still up in the air SD or MAF? I dont want to do programming so MAF may be the better choice. Im going to have to think long and hard before I go forth with this project.

Yes, definately figure out what your plans are lol. If your setup is already for maf then wiring in the converter box is no big deal. The link I gave you is the same place I ordered mine from and they shipped fast and I am still happy with the box.
