Whacked ECC?

Finally got all the parts installed in my '86 carb to TPI conversion (pain in the keister). It cranks but won't start. I started by checking the ECC diagnostic: code 12 and no other codes. Ok. Check the CES light: bad news; no light with key on. Start checking all of the coils on the solenoids: all above 20 ohms. Start checking the injectors: bad news; #9 is about 7.3 ohms. Question: will one bad injector whack the ECC? I'll pick up a new injector but do I need to get a new computer? Disconnecting all of the injectors, sensors and relays causes the CES light to flash once when the ignition is turned on but then it goes out and stays out.

If I have to get a new ECC, what model is best for my '86 305? The computer that came with the TPI setup has a tag on it but the model number is illegible. Is there a difference between ECCs for 1-49 and one for California? I have the ECC out of the car and I think I can get it tested at a local shop but I like to have my ducks lined up before talking to somebody that can lie to me in order to make money.

Also, my harness has no visible provision for a cold-start injector switch which, I assume, goes in the port in the air cleaner upper cover. Other than not firing the cold-start injector, what are the ramifications of not having the switch? I can wire the switch in if necessary; it just means getting a spare ECC connector and running the appropriate wiring (I used to be an electronic tech in aerospace so this is no big deal for me).

At this point, given the lack of the cold-start switch wiring, I suspect the ECM harness is an '88 or newer and likely the ECC is incorrect as well. That means I need to know the appropriate computer model that will be the correct replacement. Can I be reasonably sure the rest of the ECM harness is correct? All of the other connectors fell into place and other than not always matching up connector styles, seem to be in the correct locations.

While I'm about it, how about the correct model of ESC module? I'm betting the one I have is not correct, given the now suspect provenance of the ECM harness and computer.

Does anybody have any other suggestions for troubleshooting before I purchase a new ECC?

Thanks (and mucho thanks from my wife who has been after me for five months to finish this project),

Re: Whacked ECC?

Nevermind. Purchased a new ECC for $90 at CarQuest.

Cold-start switch is mounted in the front of the block. I thought that was for coolant temp but found out otherwise. Ergo, the ECM harness appears to be of the correct vintage.

Have a new cold-start injector on order. Should have it by tonight. Maybe get this sucker running. Just have to check resistance of all the relays before I plug the new ECC into the harness.
