Hey guys, hows it goin. Im thinking about bypassing my knock sensor. I read some of the posts on here about rewiring with a resistor etc..

But, I dont have a crazy mod's engine. Just a bone stock 5.7 T.P.I. In my daily driver Iroc-Z. But the reason I want to install the knock sensor, is I have a Pete Jackson Noisy gear drive layin around I want to put in the car. But Ive heard rumors, noisy gear drives on fuel injected vehicles trips the knock sensor. So I want to know, if you guys think it be alright for me to bypass in this situation, thanks.

 

you can have the knock sensor 'desensitized' in the prom or even disabled thru there.

its always a good idea tho to keep it... these cars have it for a reason

 

Do u know if its true that the knock sensor will pick up the noisy gear drive and casue the engine to run abnormal?

 

One of the things most if not all gear drives say is not for use with computer controlled engines. A knock sensor will be pretty much useless because it'll be picking up the gear drive which is drowning out anything else. There area number of noises that can play havoc with KS's and gear drives are certainly near the top of that list.

 

Isn't it a matter of just disconnecting the sensor itself? I thought it's not until OBD-II that the ECM advances the timing from time to time to check the response from the sensor..?
If it really needs to stay connected then I figure a 1 to 10 MegaOhms resistor from the sensor wire to ground should bring the sensitivity down. (Lower is "better"). A capacitor will also do the job but I'm not sure what value it should have. Maybe somewhere in the range of 10 to 100 nanoFarads. Bigger is "better" here.
If you use a resistor or capacitor then you'd better log to see that you don't get more knock readings than before.
