Oil pressure gage acting up

Basic info
86 ta
327 swap
high volume oil pump

can anyone help me out with this one? whenever i turnmy key to on or start my oil pressure gage shoots up to sixty. But if i turn the key to off it drops back down to sixty. i haven't started the engine yet, so technacily there should be no oil pressure. so why is my gage shooting up. i have a new sending unit. I thought maybe my grounds could by messed up. The whole wiring harness is a mess

Re: Oil pressure gage acting up

Check the connectors, they might have some extra resistence on them.
Or might be even disconnected.
If you disconnect the oil pressure sender and ground the wire on the block, the gauge should show 0psi.

Hope this helps.
