Fuel Pump????

When & if I change my intank pump, is their a way to wire a remote on/off switch for it, for theft purposes? If so how do I go about doing it to hook it up to my alarm. So when I arm it the fuel pump won't go on if they get her started & opposite for when I disarm it.

Re: Fuel Pump????

where there is a will, there is a way, but what you're asking seems a bit complicated... a toggle switch can be hooked up to the fuel pump (its only 2 wires, I just replaced mine a month ago) with no problem. The issue is hooking it up the the alarm. Maybe you can play with some relays on how to keep a "normal" connection when disarmed and a "broken" connection when armed... at first thought, I'd go with an alarm (if you don't have one already) that has an input for a sensor...lets say, a "tilt sensor" that feeds off a 12v signal... when the alarm is "armed" a constant 12v or ground signal will be sent to the "tilt sensor" to monitor the ..."tilt"...of the vehicle, but when you disarm the alarm, the constant feed (12v or ground) gets turned off (therefore turning off the sensor)...if you have an input/output, you can hookup a relay to be constantly disconnected when the alarm is armed, and and a constant solid connection when the alarm is disarmed.... maybe someone else might have a smarter/easier/less-confusing way of doing it...

Re: Fuel Pump????

Um, don't you have VATS already? It doesn't disable the fuel pump but it disables the injectors. Without injection, the fuel pump can run all it wants, the car still won't start.

And if I was a thief and wanted to steal one of our cars here, you can put dozens of kill switches on the fuel pump feed - I still would be able to obtain fuel pressure in 1 minute and drive away. Remember, some dedicated theives know more about our cars than most of us do. If they WANT a car, they WILL steal it.

Re: Fuel Pump????

an old trick is just disconnect the coil wire on the distributor...but thats alot of hassle for everyday protection... if you really want a toggle switch and not be obvious, you can use an already existing button...

a few Trans Ams came with the factory installed subwoofers in the back (I think) which also had a little neat button with a gain slider and on/off switch. I found one of these cars in the jk and took the switch. I use the switch to turn on/off the amp for my subs and I use the slider as a light dimmer for some interior lights I have... you can use something similar like a defrost button or something like that... but as Lou said some theves know what they're doing...

Its true the VATS system works pretty good but they do have those specialized tools to feed all the resistors all at once to get the car started.

Some people just know there cars security systems...what is that system called??? LowJack??? anyone know how good that is???
I herd it was hard to find.

Re: Fuel Pump????

Right, some thieves have all the key resistance combinations but VATS doesn't let you try them all quickly. It implements some timeouts. (I heard 15 minutes between attempts?) I don't have the exact information, you might want to google it.

Lo-jack isn't an alarm or security system. It's a tracking system. It signals its position to a lo-jack tracking company and they will find the car for you if it's stolen. Well, provided that the thief doesn't disable the lo-jack.

Re: Fuel Pump????

i actually posted an article on this a bit ago. i had to do it because i couldnt figure out why the pump wasnt workin. i ran a wire from the positive battery terminal through a inline fuse and through the firewall to a toggle switch. i then ran a wire out and to the fuel pump. i already had 3 people try and start it up and did nothin but curse . it was kinda funny. but the point is that it was installed as a lazy solution to a problem that was probably easy to fix. it only is a side bar for security if you have no vats or disabled it like me.

Re: Fuel Pump????

actually, I was talking with some coworkers tonight about car jackings and I thought of something...I think I'm going to buy a remote 12v switch system. Its pretty much a remote transmitter and module than turns something "on" or "off"... The exact same way keyless entry, remote start, etc work... I'm thinking of installing that to a cutoff relay to the fuel pump, that case if I'm ever present when the car gets stolen, I'll disable the fuel pump remotely...but thats only an idea that I'll achieve when I'm bored some day!

Re: Fuel Pump????

Be careful where you wire the switch, cause rember you can turn on the fuel pump with a paper clip at the aldl port. That is common knowledge on may GM cars and thieves figured it out first.

Re: Fuel Pump????

I already PM'd him the place to disable the fuel pump so that a drugged up teen can't take the car for a joyride with a paperclip.
