where can i find an engine block ground?

i'm adding additional gauges to my 86 trans am

they suggest a good engine ground instead of a chassis ground

do the stock wiring for the regular gauges have a ground wire that finds its way to an engine block ground?

i'm just asking because it would be so much easier to find a wire already in the dash area instead of wiring an extra ground wire through the firewall to get an engine ground.

please anyone let me know if theres an engine block ground wire already wired into the interior somewhere

Re: where can i find an engine block ground?

they want a engine ground because that way the guage and the sensor/sending unit are getting a direct ground from the engine. theoretically every peice of metal in a car should ground together but not always, i would ground it to chasis first and if the gauges seemed off or if they bounced or burried themselves when the engine revved i would then run a ground straight to the block, just a side story my old acura had an issue where it wouldnt light up the D on the shift selector but it lit up every other one, i just figured the bulb had burnt out because it was the most used one, but it wasnt. out of sheer boredom i replaced the aged factory ground with a peice of 4gauge wire scrap i had and viola i had my little d light.
