Where does this wire go????

Car: 84 Trans Am

Where does this wire go????
On an 84 Trans Am. The red positive battery cable has a thin wire the runs from the positive terminal to where? I thought it went to the solenoid but when i touch it to the terminal the car turns over. 
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that particular wire goes to the alternator. Does it have an ''eye'' terminal on the end of it? Try that. Hope that helps!
