Hatch Pull Down Motor
Hatch Pull Down Motor
I have a 91 Camaro RS V8 305ci. My hatch pull down motor completely stopped working after 1 year of erratic behavior(like running up and down non-stop when the car is running). So I examined the hatch motor area and found the motor housing cracked and the guides were destroyed. I saw good comments about topdownsolutions, so I bought the deluxe kit: New Motor and housing, new guides, and a new gear nut. Installation was easy, except the guides. I had to grind down significantly to get them to fit. I hook-up all the wires, turned on the ignition, closed the trunk and..........nothing. No sound of the motor. No movement. So I test the wires going into the hatch motor....I found power going all the way to the reversing switch that sits directly on top of the motor. I thought it might be the solenoid so I bought a new one...and of course, no change. The "LID" fuse was fine. The hatch release works fine. I am really at a loss here, and I do not know how to proceed. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Lon at Tops Down, who is also a member and sponsor on this site, has all the parts you would possibly need to fix your hatch pull-down unit. He is also good at answering questions.

Re: Hatch Pull Down Motor
He just said it works fine.
From what you're saying it sounds like your reversal switch might be bad. I'd wait for Lon to reply though. He could probably have it all troubleshot and everything in a post or two.
That, or the guides are causing too much pressure for the motor to even attempt movement. I remember that Lon's instructions included three different ways to install the guides so they'd be tighter or looser. Didja read that?
