I'm not too sure what this connector is supposed to be connected to. It's running with my positive battery cable and my altenator. Does it have anything to do with my cooling fan?

It's hard to see in the pics - maybe cooling fan wire that plugs into the A/C compressor? The use of A/C makes a single fan run continuously, or makes the driver side (I think) fan run on a dual fan setup - and there is a wire that plugs into the compressor for it, which kinda looks like what you have there.

Re: What is this connector?

I've heard of a single-wire connector on some thirdgens that were meant for the radiator coolant level sensor. However, I have never seen one in person.

What color is that wire? It looks orange in the picture but that can be misleading.

If it follows the pan rail towards the firewall at the heater box, it's likely the constant power source for the ecm. The plug allows you to disconnect to clear codes and reset the computer.

What years and models did they do this on?
My 91 Z28 doesn't have one and I'm trying to expand my knowledge on the older years.

Thanks

'87 and earlier carb'd motors to my knowledge. I haven't had occasion to check later models.

Cool, that would make sense. Models equipped with an ECM usually have a single fuse by the battery, attached to the fender. This fuse powers the ECM memory and the fans and fuel pump. That's how I know to clear ECM codes on newer cars.
