VSS test, locate, replace

I have a 91 Z28 convertible
My speedometer works intermittently.
Usually stops working in very cold or rainy weather
May stop for few miles to a few days.
All other gauges and TAC works fine
Is the problem in the VSS, wiring and/or dash module?
How do I test?
Where is VSS located?
Please reply to email gw47129@yahoo.com
Thanks

no idea how to test it but it's on the tailshaft of the tranny and pretty simple to replace..

It can be anywhere.
The VSS signal travels from the sensor through yellow and purple wires to the ECM and then through a brown wire to the instrument cluster.

Does your cruise control work when the speedometer doesn't? If yes, then it's not the VSS or the ECM.

You can find complete wiring diagrams here if you need: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

Hope this helps.
