Hi, I have a 1992 Camaro RS with a 3.1 V-6 and have a question. I was wondering how to properly install the distributor in the engine block. I forget the way it's positioned in the engine and my Hayne's manual doesn't help much. Any feedback would be much appriciated.

The idea is to get it so the rotor is pointing at the #1 spark plug terminal when the engine is at top dead center. If you didn't mark where it was pointing when the dizzy was removed, you'll probably have to turn the engine by hand until it's at TDC. Pull the #1 spark plug, and stick a piece of crumpled up paper towel in the spark plug hole. Then, using a breaker bar, turn the engine over by hand, until the paper pops out, and the timing mark on the balancer is at zero on the pointer. Now, reinstall the distributor. You may need a long slotted screwdriver to turn the oil pump too, so it lines up with the distributor.
The paper towel trick is to make sure that cylinder #1 is on the compression stroke, not the exhaust stroke. If you have a helper, you can also just have them put their finger over the spark plug hole, and check for air coming out.
