Car wont remember how to idle, loses memory...wiring problem??? just go to carb?
okay soo this is a messed up one in my eyes but i figured id let my fellow TGO members give an opinion
so ive been car less for a month now. first the fuel pump went. drove fine afterwards 2 days later had a problem again like the pump was going. replaced TPS, IAC, and gave a tune up. still nothing. Left it to the professionals. They said bad fuel pump. Pulled out my pump and apparently i put a hole in the black rubber hose. Whatever, fixed it. got it back and now the car wont remember how to idle. They spent 3 days checking each sensor and voltage on everything. everything came back good. only thing is the car is stuck in what there calling "flood" mode and thats why the car wont run. What do you think. Wiring harness problem or should i just forget about all this and go to a carb. He said hed put a vortec manifold and an electric choke carb on it. Now i know everyone has their opinions but please let me know the + and - if you all would. Thanks guys!

Carbs suck, stick with EFI for a street car.
What engine is this? You have "305HO" but those engines were only in the 83-86 thirdgens and were carbureted already.
Is your Check Engine Light on all the time? If so, you have a bad computer, or a bad prom in the computer. If the light is not on, then you probably have a short or open in the wiring harness that is giving bad information to the computer.

****, maybe its not an HO it has the dual snorkel on it and everything just kinda assumed it is. its original so its probably just the base 305. So just curiosu why do you say carb sucks for street car, like i know i wont be able to start the car and take off right away, and takes away a few mpg but doesnt it add more hp?
and no the check engine light is not on all the time. its not a bad computer....had a new ecm put in with my prom and same prob....is there a way to check the prom? or thats part of the ecm? *these are the things the shops done for me*

An 88 base model Camaro with a V8 engine would have the TBI engine in it to start with. Its possible someone replaced the stock single snorkel air cleaner with the earlier carbureted dual snorkel. Its a simple swap and bolts right in.
Carbs and EFI, when both are tuned correctly, make similar amounts of power on any engine. But the benefits of EFI include easier starting, better ability to adjust to weather and altitude, better gas mileage, and lower emissions, even from the stock computer. The trade off is the higher cost and complexity in tuning after you make changes, as you need a laptop, software, and hardware to change the programming.
Your problems sound like something bad in the wiring to me, or some other bad sensor. It would be practically impossible for me to diagnose and fix over the internet, unfortunately.
