well, today my battery gauge stayed low at/right under 8, instead of the 13 its usually at, so i'm like crap alternator went out. before this, i had bad alternator whine in my system (2200 watts), but only sometimes, sometimes there was none. when the battery gauge dropped, the whine went away completely. now also prior to the power drop, my speedo would bounce if i wasnt moving (1991 electric 110mph), and that also stopped when the power drop occured. again, before the power drop, the car would have the heat soaked starter soliniod issue w/ long tubes, but after the power drop it has improved ALOT. and finally at higher rpms the engine would run rough, and after the power drop its running as smooth as a bmw. also, my gauges now all bounce with a turn signal on. i really dont understand this at all, ANY insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks, alex

 

You need a new alternator and at least a 1/2 farad capacitor for your system. Also, an optima yellow top battery would be nice too!

Start with a new alternator and capacitor first. Also check the thick power wire that runs from the alternator to the battery. Make sure it doesn't have any burn marks or bad spots that could be grounding out on the block somewhere......
